Solaris, the Polish bus manufacturer (part of the CAF Group), has introduced its new all-electric model, the Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric, hinted at in the Spring.

It''s a 15-meter long, tri-axle, low entry bus, envisioned for city and intercity transport. This new model will be offered only with zero-emission drivelines.

According to the manufacturer, the top version can be equipped with a 470 kWh battery (six packs) and a 300 kW electric motor, powered by SiC power electronics. We must although remember that on the bus market, the spec depends on the particular customer''s order.

As we can see in video presentations, there are various configurations of the vehicle. The first Urbino 15 LE electric will be delivered to a customer in Norway. An important feature for colder weather is an air conditioning system with a heat pump function.

The Volvo BZL is a full-size zero tailpipe emissions battery electric bus chassis for both single-deck buses and double-deck buses, manufactured by Volvo AB since 2021.[3]

First launched in 2021 for the United Kingdom and Ireland markets, featuring both double-decker and single-decker bodies built by MCV Bus & Coach, the BZL chassis range features CO2 heat pump-powered heating and ventilation, and is claimed to be 90% recyclable. It is also built to a high safety standard with multiple new safety innovations such as sealed battery compartments and a strengthened front frame.[4][5][2]

In Victoria, CDC Melbourne took delivery of eight BZLs for delivery between 2022 and 2024.[29] Latrobe Valley Bus Lines and Seymour Bus Lines also took delivery of one and three BZLs respectively.[30]

The first of 17 BZLs began to be delivered to Transdev Queensland in February 2023,[31][32][33] Hornibrook Bus Lines took delivery of 16 for its new North Lakes depot in late 2023, making it the first bus depot operated entirely by electric buses in Queensland.[34][35]

In Singapore, a Volvo BZL with a three-door SC Neustar City body, unveiled in November 2022 and developed in joint partnership between Volvo and local bus and coach bodywork manufacturer SC Auto, entered service on a one-year trial with Tower Transit Singapore from 26 March 2023.[36] In Malaysia, the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Range was launched in partnership with Gemilang Coachworks, with a trial on Rapid Bus services planned. This was the first locally built electric low-floor bus in Malaysia.[37]

Volvo Buses is introducing a new chassis for electric buses called BZL Electric. It is designed for both single and double-decker buses with several options for bodybuilders and features a powertrain developed entirely by Volvo.

According to Volvo, the new chassis is based on proven and successful technologies already in use in Europe. At its heart is an electric motor coupled to a two-stage automated transmission, which has 167 kW continuous, 200 kW peak power and 425 Nm of torque. According to the manufacturer, the driveline can be configured for solo buses as a single- or dual-motor unit with an output of up to 400 kW. For double-deckers, there is only the single-motor variant.

The BZL Electric chassis is 11,815 mm long for the single-decker and 10,585 mm for the double-decker. The permissible gross weight is 19.5 tonnes. A Volvo RFS-L axle is fitted at the front and a ZF AV133 axle at the rear. The chassis can accommodate three to five battery packs with NCA cells of 94 kWh each, resulting in the three battery options 282 kWh, 376 kWh and 470 kWh. Volvo does not give a forecast on the range in its announcement. On the other hand, buses based on the BZL Electric can, according to the manufacturer, be charged with up to 150 kW DC via two different hardware interfaces as well as optionally via OppCharge with a maximum of 300 kW.

Volvo also emphasises that the chassis is prepared for the integration of roof-mounted systems from various suppliers for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (including heat pumps). In addition, Volvo Buses has already laid the groundwork for using its latest connected technology offerings. Volvo Connect and Volvo Zone Management are cited as examples.

Finally, the Swedish company also highlighted the sustainability credentials of their chassis. For example, the BZL Electric is said to be 90 per cent recyclable. “We are committed to leading the transformation of our industry towards a more sustainable future. With the introduction of the new Volvo BZL Electric, we aim to offer the most responsible electric bus systems in the world. We do this by focusing on sustainability, safety and reliability,” emphasises Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses.

China''s EV battery developer Gotion High-Tech continues its global expansion, celebrating its latest milestone in new technologies this month. Gotion rolled its first battery pack off its new assembly line near Silicon Valley – its first product manufactured in the United States.

Faster and farther – those are two of the most common requests from many e-bike riders who rely on their bikes for daily trips. The Lectric XP e-bike is already quite fast at 28 mph (45 km/h), but now it is going farther than ever thanks to a big battery upgrade launched today by the manufacturer.

Battery systems manufacturer SVOLT has unveiled a cobalt-free battery pack at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. The company now claims to be the first to create a cobalt-free battery that has reached series production, although other battery manufacturers have claimed similar production achievements.

During its “Tech Zone” online launch event, global battery maker CATL introduced its first-generation sodium-ion battery, as well as an AB solution that integrates both sodium-ion and lithium-ion cells into one pack. While this first generation of sodium-ion cells is not here to overtake traditional lithium-ion batteries, they do present a number of benefits for charging, maintaining energy, and helping to promote cleaner energy.
