The Outgoing Octopus tariff is the price we pay you for electricity you export to the

Outgoing Octopus: a variable tariff that allows you to sell your excess solar for a flat unit price of 15p per kWh.

Agile Outgoing Octopus: priced dynamically, with a unit price that changes every half an hour – allowing people generating green energy at home to take advantage of the highly variable wholesale cost of energy throughout the day, and export at the most valuable times.

Modern slavery statement.

To maximize your earnings from excess solar generation, it''s important to pick the right Octopus export tariffs — because your solar panels deserve to pay their way too! With my recent installation of solar panels and battery storage, I''ve become slightly obsessed with the weather, energy consumption, and getting the best possible deal on my export tariffs. Octopus Energy offers a range of innovative export tariffs that can seriously impact how much income you generate from exporting your solar energy back to the grid. Choose wisely, and you''ll turn your panels into reliable money-makers giving you credit each money on your Octopus Energy bill.

I’ve been an Octopus Energy customer for 6 years now, and am taking steps to electrify my home. My main goal is to be self-sufficient and generate and consume my own energy. However, there will be times when I can share my solar power and export it to the national grid. I appreciate how Octopus prioritises excellent customer service and environmentally friendly tariffs that make this rewarding. Their commitment to sustainability not only helps reduce my bills but also allows me to contribute to a greener future.

If you are interested in green technology Octopus Energy is without doubt the energy supplier to be with! In this review of Octopus export tariffs for 2024, I will explore these options in detail. If you have any questions drop me a message or reach out to me on Twitter.

Octopus Energy stands out as the top provider of cutting-edge environmentally friendly tariffs. Their solar export rates are among the highest available, and when paired with one of their exclusive Octopus smart tariffs, they can significantly lower your energy costs.

Choosing a tariff may feel overwhelming with so many options available, but the range of choices allows customers to customise a tariff to suit their unique green home setup. Each home is different, and with the addition of green technology, having a variety of options is essential to maximise energy bill savings.

If you haven’t had solar panels installed yet here’s my review of my recent Octopus Energy solar and battery installation. Yes, this is me in the video below too.

You don’t need to be an Octopus Energy customer to qualify for an Octopus export tariff but you’ll be limited to their Octopus Smart Energy Guarantee.

If you want to maximise your earnings from excess solar generation exported to the National Grid, I highly recommend switching your domestic import tariff to Octopus Energy. You’ll receive a much higher payment for your exported energy.

I will start by listing the more traditional Octopus tariffs that offer a flat export rate.

It is important to maximize your savings, especially during the spring and summer months when daylight hours are longer. Considering both your import and export tariffs can help you reduce your overall monthly costs and make the most out of your excess solar generation. It’s a smart way to make your energy usage more efficient.

Consider exploring this option further to see how you can benefit from Octopus export rates and optimise your energy consumption. By combining different tariffs effectively, you can take full advantage of your solar generation and lower your energy expenses. It’s a practical approach to managing your energy usage and saving money in the long run.

Octopus Outgoing offers a rate of 15p per kWh, making it the easiest set-and-forget Octopus export tariff in my view. It provides a reliable and competitive export rate, but there are other strategies to lower your home energy costs if you have solar panels and battery storage and are prepared to do a little more groundwork.

If you want to get the best export rates anywhere in the UK Octopus Flux and its automated sister Intelligent Octopus Flux win hands down.  On Octopus Flux as an example, if you export your excess solar during the peak rate slot the rate is 22.75p per kWh!

Octopus Flux tariff is best suited for homes with both solar panels and battery storage. It is slightly different in that it is an import and export tariff all rolled into one. It doesn’t have to be your tariff of choice all year, many Octopus customers switch to Octopus Flux in the spring and stay on the tariff until early autumn. When the days start to become shorter they change to a tariff best suited to them for the winter months. I have covered some of this in my Octopus seasonal tariff blog post.

You can find the Octopus Flux rates for your area on the Octopus website.

Octopus Flux has 3 rate periods and one standing charge.

You can monitor your solar export on your Octopus Energy dashboard. I use the Octopus App but you can also view it on their website. The advantage of using the Octopus app is that you can see the estimated amount you make each day, week or month for your exported solar generation.

Before moving to an Octopus tariff that pays you for your excess solar PV you will need to supply Octopus with your MCS certificate.
