On 17th March, 2014 the SIDS Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Initiative (SIDS DOCK), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Government of Austria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to assist Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in Africa, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific in the creation of a network of regional sustainable energy promotion centres.

The Thirty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the CARICOM, held in Bridgetown, Barbados, 2 to 4 July 2015, endorsed the establishment of the CCREEE as the implementation hub for sustainable energy activities and projects within the region.
The legal agreement establishing the CCREEE went into force on 19 May 2018, and on 22 May 2018, the CCREEE Headquarters Agreement was signed between the Government of Barbados and the CCREEE. With the effectiveness of both agreements the Center received full legal personality in line with CARICOM laws and regulations.
CCREEE aims at improving access to modern, affordable and reliable energy services, energy security and mitigation of negative externalities of the energy system (e.g. local pollution and greenhouse gas emissions) by promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Its members are: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
From its inception, CCREEE has been steadfast in its commitment to foster a transition to cleaner, more resilient and inclusive energy systems. Through collaboration with governments, international partners, and local stakeholders, CCREEE has spearheaded numerous pioneering projects, policy reforms, and capacity-building initiatives that have contributed to the region’s sustainable development goals.
From supporting the deployment of solar energy systems and wind farms to promoting the adoption of energy-efficient technologies in buildings, CCREEE has been at the forefront of driving innovation and knowledge exchange in the Caribbean energy sector.
