Panamá, December 3rd, 2021– Enel Green Power ("EGPP"), fulfilling its commitment to develop renewable energy sources throughout Central America through investment in photovoltaic generation, inaugurates two solar plants in the communities of Jagüito (El Roble district, Coclé province) and Esperanza (Progreso, Barú district, Chiriquí province).
Together, both projects represent a capacity of 39.36 MW and will generate 59,65 GWh per year, avoiding the emission of more than 35,400 tons of CO2 per year. The construction of these two solar plants contributes to the economic reactivation of Panama and will feed the local operation of important clients in the commercial and industrial sector of the country.
The Jagüito photovoltaic solar plant, a 13.12 MW capacity project, will generate 20,19 GWh per year of clean energy, avoiding the emission of more than 11,800 tons of CO2 per year. It covers an area of 13.17 hectares, with the use of 32,130 monocrystalline photovoltaic panels.
On the other side, the Esperanza solar plant has 26.24 MW of capacity and will generate 39,46 GWh per year of green energy, avoiding the emission of more than 23,600 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. It covers an area of 40 hectares, where 64,440 monocrystalline photovoltaic panels have been installed.
The energy supply agreements related to these plants demonstrate the growing interest of the private sector in incorporating renewable energy into their operations. Both photovoltaic energy projects respect the country''s ecosystem and its diversity, as well as contribute to the growth and diversification of Panama''s energy matrix.
Enel Green Power Panama consolidates its leadership in the local generation market and reaffirms the group´s commitment to its global decarbonization objectives and to lead the energy transition based on the development of sustainable energies.
Reinforcing its position as the largest private renewable energy operator in the world, Enel Green Power Panama encourages the country to the group of nations that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, to action for climate change and preservation of our planet.
Enel Green Power, within the Enel Group, is dedicated to the development and operation of renewables across the world, with a presence in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Enel Green Power is a global leader in the green energy sector with an installed capacity of around 46.4 GW across a generation mix that includes wind, solar, geothermal and hydropower, and is at the forefront of integrating innovative technologies into renewable power plants.
Enel Green Power Panama is the main renewable energy operator in the country, in terms of installed capacity. The company operates the 300 MW Fortuna Hydroelectric Plant and the 12 MW Chiriquí photovoltaic plant, both in the province of Chiriquí, as well as the 42 MW Sol Real photovoltaic complex, composed of five plants distributed between the provinces of Chiriquí and Coclé and Estrella Solar of 8 MW in Coclé.
PHOENIX and COLON, Panama, July 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Solar is opening a solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facility in Panama to supply U.S. and global solar developers and installers, and address challenges in the solar industry, Chief Executive Officer and Founder John Bereckis announced today.
"Modules made in the Americas will bypass many of the constraints afflicting the U.S. solar industry today, in particular supply issues related to Asian manufacturers. These constraints include existing tariffs and the threat of additional tariffs; COVID-related factory closures, shipping delays and price hikes; and the federal ban on products containing silicon sourced from Hoshine, China," Bereckis said.
"The prospect of tariffs on additional Asian countries has thrown the supply chain into turmoil, despite the Biden administration''s two-year pause. Modules from Central America will give U.S. developers a much-needed alternative," Bereckis said.
Universal Solar is taking orders now, with delivery expected in the fourth quarter 2022. The company has signed Master Service Agreements for more than 400 megawatts (MW) of modules, and is negotiating an additional 175 MW, which would account for nearly all of the factory''s 600-MW first-line capacity.
Universal Solar''s Panama manufacturing plant is comprised of 200,000 square feet in a state-of-the-art facility with equipment sourced from industry-leading OEMs. Equipment is being purchased and installed, up to 50 employees are being hired, and a grand opening is scheduled for fall.
The first module lines will range from 350 to 545 watts. All will be high-efficiency (20.04 to 21.46 percent), low-LID, mono PERC and some will feature half-cell technology. Universal Solar will offer 25- to 30-year linear power output warranties and 12- to 15-year material and workmanship warranties.
Universal Solar''s modules will be 100 percent-compliant with the U.S. Commerce Department''s Withhold and Release Order on Hoshine silicon.
