WASHINGTON – Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 15, at 9 a.m. ET, in Washington, D.C., U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will headline the 2023 Energy Storage Policy Forum hosted by American Clean Power. Senator Heinrich will join American Clean Power CEO Jason Grumet for a fireside chat on improving energy storage capabilities and what the future holds for the clean energy sector.
The event unites state and federal regulators, policymakers, storage industry members, utility decision makers, and power sector stakeholders in the most critical energy storage discussions.
Senator Heinrich, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and founder and co-chair of the Electrification Caucus, has been a champion for advancing clean energy, storage, and transmission policies in Congress. His bipartisan Better Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Act was signed into law in 2020. This legislation accelerates the development of next-generation energy storage while simultaneously supporting grid-scale energy storage research and development. The Fiscal Year 2023 Omnibus Appropriations bill includes $20 million for a U.S.-made energy storage grant program, which is based on the bipartisan BEST Act.
Senator Heinrich also played a major role in securing historic clean energy provisions in the Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the Fiscal Year 2023 Omnibus Appropriations bill. The Inflation Reduction Act established an Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for stand-alone storage projects, which was modeled after the Energy Storage Tax Incentive and Deployment Act that Senator Heinrich introduced in 2021.
