We are implementing a Photovoltaic and Battery Storage System to provide reliable and sustainable energy solutions for Divino Niño Special Needs School. The school’s current power supply has proven unreliable, and electricity for day-to-day operational needs is often interrupted.
Planning Stage and Implementation Stage.
Emergency Energy (EE) is thrilled to announce a new collaboration with the Organization for Sustainable Inclusion and Poverty Alleviation (OSIEPA) in Kenya.
In 2020 Nicaragua ratified its commitment to renewables by signing the International Solar Alliance with India
ENERGIA LIMPIA XXI. Solar energy continues to grow in isolated rural communities throughout Nicaragua, a clear example of this is the San Jacinto Arriba Educational Center in Wiwili Municipality, Nueva Segovia Department, here the solar panels guarantee the necessary energy for the students. The system helps generate the electricity that is used in the electrical system and in computer classrooms and English labs. Data from the specialized publication Energía Limpia XXI highlights that in the last 13 years the government has brought electricity service to more than 3 million Nicaraguans. Until 2006, Nicaragua was the country with the lowest level of electricity coverage in all of Central America. In July 2020, electricity coverage was 98%, an unprecedented fact.
Solar projects in Nicaragua are not strange. In the last decade, almost all hospitals in Nicaragua have solar roofs or small solar heaters that help guarantee the 24/7 electricity supply, thanks to the use of batteries and storage systems.
Strengthening of technical capacities of youth.
On the other hand, the National Technological Institute and the National Engineering University (UNI) have promoted in the last decade the training of thousands of young people at a medium, technical and professional level, guaranteeing that no one is left out in this renewable revolution.

Eight volunteers from Nicaragua traveled with GRID to Paso Real to install the solar system and improved cookstove from start-to-finish, gaining hands-on experience in solar installation, and building their skills and resumes to enter the growing solar industry in Nicaragua.
On February 2, 2022, a meeting was held by MINED and the World Bank to overview the technical support provided thus far through GPSS to Nicaragua. The Government of Nicaragua was represented by Minister-Advisor to the President for Education, Mr. Salvador Vanegas, and the meeting was also attended by Mr. Yasuhisa Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to Nicaragua, as well as representatives of the JICA Nicaragua Office.
Apart from the capacity training discussed during the meeting, since 2020 this technical assistance has supported the governments of Nicaragua and El Salvador to continuously improve their technical basis for resilient school infrastructure, particularly in the field of investment planning, pre-investment studies, climate-resilient school designs and project supervision to currently ongoing WBG operations. Furthermore, the analytical work carried out is providing knowledge and tools for the design of school infrastructure strategies, policies, and investmentsacross Central America. This work is summarized in three technical notes that will be finalized in the next quarter.
The World Bank Group will continue working to reduce risk and increase the resilience of school infrastructure, as well as promoting infrastructure that fosters inclusion, ecological consciousness and prepares children for the challenges of the future.
